Do you think in coincidences? Well, as I used to be writing this article, I got an email from past colleague.
The last time we tend to "talked" was by email a pair of years ago. And nevertheless, when I got her email these days, I used to be delighted to listen to from her (although she was writing to raise me for one thing).
We tend to lose bit with people incessantly -- in our skilled lives and personal lives -- for various reasons.
For instance, this year, with the birth of our second baby, followed by our relocation across the country, along with my involvement in completing my book I have not been ready to stay in bit with several people. Once all, there's only thus much time in the day!
Then, when it comes time to reconnect, many people feel awkward about it. And many individuals don't reconnect just as a result of of that sense of awkwardness.
However, reconnecting will be delightful -- just like I used to be delighted to hear from my colleague earlier today.
And just like my past contacts are happy to listen to from me, as I reach out to reconnect with them, now that things are beginning to get back to "traditional".
Therefore what allows folks to reconnect with each alternative comfortably, even once long periods of silence?
? 1st, keeping in touch is a two-means street. If I've lost touch with somebody, it suggests that that *neither* people have initiated contact with the other. In alternative words, it's not simply *one* person's responsibility to keep in touch. So chances are, once I do initiate contact, the other person will be happy to listen to from me -- particularly, if we had a smart relationship in the past. Of course, if we tend to did not have a relationship in the past, it is a totally different story -- and a subject for a future article.
? Second, whenever an opportunity arises, use it to reconnect. For example, I am going to use occasions like somebody's birthday, or some event in my life (e.g. my farewell party) to reconnect. And once I do get in bit, I will typically bring the person up to date with what's been happening with me (if they don't understand already), thus they have a way of why I have not kept in touch. Since most people are busy themselves, they typically understand and forgive the lapse. Once more, the necessary issue to notice is that these are individuals with whom I had already engineered a relationship within the past. So I understand their birthdays, and be interested in their lives, as they do in mine.
So reconnecting with someone once a very long time, even if you're doing therefore as a result of you would like one thing from the opposite person, can be completely free of any awkwardness, if
1. You have got already invested the time earlier to build a relationship that can survive periods of very little or no contact.
2. Both folks in the relationship get something from keeping it alive, and therefore both individuals take responsibility to do so.
