The ?J? Waggoner's Family Woodshop, Revisited

October of 2010,?I was fortunate to have met this woodworking family at the Woodworking in America Show?at the?Kentucky Convention Center. Heading up the family is Dad, Jeff Waggoner, with his wife Julie and?their 4 children, Janae, Jordan, Jalen, and Jaida. In our first blog on this family, we introduced you to them, showing some of their individual woodworking talents, projects, and crafts. They also have a website called PlaneOldWood.com. Jalen has been featured?on Steve Ramsey?s Woodworking for Mere Mortals site, and Lumberjocks has detailed information on product builds by Jalen and Jordan.

?

Throughout the year, Jeff and I have remained in contact regarding?this year?s events and?projects?involving the Frankfort Covenant Academy School, attended by the children?in conjunction with competitions?in the?Accelerated Christian Education Program. Amongst the 150 offered categories, the?woodworking category consisted of 4 sub-categories;?turning, carving, marquetry, and the wood construction category. Janae and Jordan both competed once?again?in the Regional Competitions, held at Ball State University in Marion, Indiana.

Janae?held 6th place with her Japanese style?keepsake box.

Jordan won 2nd place with his folding/ travel writing desk.

Both qualified for?the International Competitions, by being in the top 6 range required by the regional program. Held this year?at the James Madison University in Virginia this past May, Janae and Jordan entered their respective?projects with some additional changes. This time Jordan faired 10th place?

?

and Janae?captured 3rd place?

Thanks to Rob Cosman for all the instruction and DVD training, made for great dovetail results on both of these projects:

On the way back home to Frankfort, Jeff, Janae,?Jordan, Jalen, along with 6?other students, Austin, Talon, Ray, Kevin, Blake, Giobany, and the Principal of Frankfort Covenent Academy, Ron Coleman, stopped by the Woodcraft Corporate Office for a tour, and to tell us about their adventures.

The kids tell?us about their individual educational competition experiences:

We also took them over to the Parkersburg Woodcraft Store where they?met our talented woodworking staff, Kyle and Shawn,?and for a tour of the Woodcraft Magazine Woodshop.

They loved the shop, and I believe they wanted to know if the entire shop and contents could be ordered in it?s entirety with one SKU number!

Another talented discovery from Janae?is?her ceramic art ability. Pictured here with Woodcraft?s Marketing Director, Liz; both share their artistic?attribute backgrounds. Janae took 1st place at the International Competition?in the?clay sculpture category for?her work of ?Angus?.

One final chapter in this story involves a?huge appreciation?thank you going out to Chris and the employees of the?Indianapolis Indiana Woodcraft Store for the last minute assistance, going above and beyond to make sure this competition would happen for the Waggoner Family. Jeff explains?

Thanks Jeff for another fine Woodcraft testimonial.

We?ll look forward to seeing the entire Waggoner Family at this year?s WIA Show.

PS, Jalen?Don?t forget Rob?s photos!!

auf Wiedersehen?Frank
