Christie's second thoughts? (Politico)

The chances seem slim, but two GOP sources tell me what NewsMax and the New York Post are reporting - that Chris Christie has indicated he is listening to the Republican insiders, elites and donors who are at this point all but begging him to run for president.

"I believe he is really considering it," one Republican fundraising source told me. The people who say he's thinking about it say he will make it clear within the next week or so.

NewsMax reported that Christie had another meeting with major New York bundlers in the past week, although it was apparently much smaller than the roughly 40 big donors he met with a few months ago, a group that included in person or by phone Ken Langone, Paul Singer, David Koch, Charles Schwab and others.

The pressure - and the window for pursuing it - only intensified yesterday, as Rick Perry's debate performance in Orlando was panned heavily by conservative pundits in print and on talk radio.

Christie is about to make a major fundraising swing through California to benefit the New Jersey GOP. But it's a trip that will allow him to hear from donors in one of the other major donor areas, and could end up leaving an impression

On the flip side, Christie's public denials of interest have not changed, and two other people close to him insist to me he is not going to run for president.
