College Roundup: Shippensburg upends Millersville field hockey again; E'town can't catch hosts at Dickinson Invitational

FIELD HOCKEY

Shippensburg finished a 2-0 weekend Saturday with its second win over Millersville this season, a 2-0 shutout. Taylor Bender (Central Dauphin) and Bre White (Lower Dauphin) scored the Raider goals. Ari Saytar (East Pennsboro) assisted on Bender's goal. The Raiders, ranked No. 2 in Division II, improved to 11-1 this season. Lauren Sotzin (Central Dauphin) made four saves for Millersville, which fell to 7-5. The Marauders will host East Stroudsburg Wednesday while Shippensburg visits Seton Hill. ... Lebanon Valley made a strong bid to become the second area team in 48 hours to defeat No. 4 Messiah, but the Falcons hung on for a 2-1 win. Heather Quirk and Rachel Cox tallied for the Falcons, who improved to 2-0 in the Commonwealth Conference and 7-2 overall. They rebounded from Thursday's 1-0 loss at Franklin & Marshall. ...

SOCCER

Kate Zech and Katie Leverentz each assisted on the other's goal, and Shelbie Rackley (Cumberland Valley) made four saves as Shippensburg (4-4-3) shut out Slippery Rock 2-0. ... Sami Young (Lower Dauphin) made three saves for the Lebanon Valley women in their 2-0 shutout win over Albright. Those three shots were all the Lions managed, compared to 38 by the Dutchmen, who improved their record to 5-4. ... Cody Short (Lebanon) notched an assist for Albright in the Lion men's 2-1 win over LVC. ... The Messiah men, ranked No. 3 in Division III, routed Stevenson 6-1 in their Commonwealth Conference opener. ... Alex Brandt (Mechanicsburg) and Nikki Elsaesser tallied a goal and an assist apiece and Alicia Frey (Northern) also scored for the No. 3 Falcons women's team in their 4-0 win over Stevenson. ... The Elizabethtown men got a golden goal from freshman Martin Fevre in the 103rd minute to beat Arcadia in their Commonwealth Conference opener. Zach Lee (Palmyra) and Kyle Volk scored the goals in regulation for the Blue Jays (3-5-2, 1-0). ... The E'town women scored three times in the second half, including tallies by Danielle Bond (Cedar Crest) and Trisha Clark (Trinity), to defeat Arcadia 3-0 and improve to 5-2-3. ... Mackenzie Gates (Central Dauphin) made six saves as her Penn State Harrisburg team beat SUNY IT 3-2 to improve to 4-0 in NEAC play.

CROSS COUNTRY

Traci Tempone won her second straight meet, finishing more than 30 seconds ahead of her closest competitor, leading the Elizabethtown women to a tie at the Dickinson Invitational. The host Red Devils got the victory on the tie-break. ... Stephen Welsh finished third and Aaron Focht (Red Land) fourth for the E'town men, and three other Blue Jays came in in the top 10, but it wasn't enough to lead the Jays past the host Red Devils, who swept the Dickinson Short Course Invitational.

VOLLEYBALL

Messiah went 3-1 Friday and Saturday at the Worthington Classic, knocking off Geneva, Shenandoah and host Gallaudet.
