Identity: Is it Your Personality or Your Body?

I was watching this anime 'Kokoro Connect'(great show btdubs, you should check it) and one of the characters said the following:
Everyone implicitly believes that we each have a soul, a consciousness, or a personality, and that they make us who we are. That is why would a identify a combination of Aoki's body and Nagase Iori's soul/personality, as Nagase Iori.

But souls, or personalities, are neither tangible nor visible. This is why we identify a person by their own physical body. Basically, our bodies are the essence of our identities. But what if our bodies, through personality switching, for example, were no longer solely our own?

Would we still be ourselves?

For a quick backstory of the show: 5 main characters begin to randomly switch bodies/souls/personalities with each other at random times throughout the day through some kind of weird phenomenon. I found the question oddly interesting to be in such a show so I thought I'd bring it up here. Despite the lack of supernatural phenomenon I feel that, through technology, such a question is actually applicable in real life.

In recent years technology has begun to advance at an incredibly rapid rate; you have video such as this that show how people's minds can come under the illusion that they another being, and you have people talking about subjects such as uploading your mind and brain transplants. I'm certain any gamer(shooter, mmo or rpg) has dreamt of that 'perfect game' where you feel and act as if you are controlling your own character. This too would require some form of consciousness manipulation.

In a world where the ideas of placing your consciousness in robotic avatars or online personas/characters isn't that farfetched, what makes you who you are? Is it the consciousness that's controlling the being, or the body/avatar that everyone observes you as? If multiple people are allowed to control your avatar/character then is that being really you? Or do you share an identity with someone else? If you control multiple avatars/characters at a time, is the essence that is you being stretched thin, or are you many different people at once?

What makes you, you?
