I?ll Have What She?s Having: GOP Rep. Jean Schmidt?s Epic Reaction To Fake SCOTUS News

As the political media world continues to sort through the repercussions of Thursday?s Supreme Court ruling on President Obama?s Affordable Care Act, Fox News and CNN have to contend with their own special brand of blowback for jumping the gun and announcing the Court had struck down the individual mandate portion of the law. That monumental mistake has no more tragic or comical consequences than the reaction of Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-OH), preserved forever on YouTube.

The folks at CNN and Fox News should feel downright awful for sending Rep. Schmidt on an emotional rollercoaster ride that CrooksAndLiars.com?s Diane Sweet described this way:

CrooksandLiars came across this cell phone video footage, posted to Youtube, of Schmidt standing outside the court as news of the ruling was apparently being passed to her via cell phone. Her reaction reminded me of a famous restaurant scene with Meg Ryan in comedy ?When Harry Met Sally.?

?Yes! Yes!!! And what else?! Thank God!? Schmidt shouts into her cell phone, under the belief that the Supreme Court had struck down the law. Schmidt?s phone source was apparently tuned in to either Fox News or CNN, as the two networks led initial confusion over the ruling by reporting that the high court had struck down Barack Obama?s Affordable Care Act.

No matter where you stand on the issue, you have to feel a little bit bad for Rep. Schmidt, even if her elation was in response to her belief that the Supreme Court had just struck down a law that expands health care to tens of millions of Americans who would otherwise not have it, and which prevents insurance companies from denying coverage to those with preexisting conditions, and which extends to millions of Americans the ?privilege,? of not waiting until their health deteriorates to the point that they?re seeking expensive, less effective care in emergency rooms, that Schmidt enjoys at our expense. Come to think of it, maybe Fox and CNN don?t have anything to feel bad about.

Syrian troops recover rebellious Damascus suburb

BEIRUT (AP) ? Syrian troops have regained control of a rebellious Damascus suburb after a 10-day assault that left dozens dead, hundreds wounded and caused a major humanitarian crisis, activists said Saturday.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and local activist Mohammed Saeed said troops recaptured Douma outside the capital late Friday.

The latest campaign was the worst of several assaults on the area, with dead bodies left in the streets, the Observatory said.

"The situation in Douma is catastrophic. The suburb is badly destroyed," said Saeed via Skype, adding that he was among dozens of residents who on foot through the fields to safer areas for fear of being captured by security forces.

Douma has been a hotbed of dissent since the uprising against President Bashar Assad began in March last year.

Troops loyal to Assad are strong in central Damascus, but have battled to control the ring of suburbs and settlements in the surrounding countryside. The army launches frequent offensives into the suburbs only to see them slip back into rebel control.

Saeed said troops stormed two makeshift hospitals where seriously wounded people were being treated. "The doctors fled and the wounded remained. Their fate is unknown," he said.

The latest violence came as representatives of global and regional powers tried Saturday to agree on a peaceful formula to end the bloody crisis in Syria, including the role of Assad in a transitional government.

The talks hosted by the United Nations at its European headquarters in Geneva are seen as a last-ditch attempt to salvage the peace plan brokered by the U.N.-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan.

Annan warned that if nations trying to end the country's violence fail to act they face an international crisis of "grave severity." He said history "will judge us all harshly if we prove incapable of taking the right path today."

Russia's determination to preserve its last remaining ally in the Middle East has collided head-on with the desire by the U.S. and other Western powers to replace Assad with a democracy. Diplomats are growing pessimistic that the U.N.-brokered conference can bridge the Russia-U.S. divide.

Activists say more than 14,000 people have been killed as the conflict has becoming increasingly militarized. Fighting also has left several rebel strongholds facing dire conditions.

Douma's residents suffer from daily shelling as well as shortages of food, electricity and running water, according to the Observatory. It also cited a shortage of cooking gas that has prevented people from cooking food since the latest campaign began on June 21.

The Observatory said about 100 families, mostly women and children, remain in Douma as men had to flee because of waves of arrests. Dozens of wounded people also are holed up in shelters and need urgent treatment after troops took over the main hospital in the area and damaged it, the Observatory said.

"Many of the wounded have died because of bad medical conditions," the Observatory said.

The state-run news agency SANA said troops continue to pursue "terrorist groups" in Douma, raiding their hideouts and destroying their communications and other equipment. Clashes resulted in the death of dozens of terrorists ? the official term authorities use for rebels ? and the wounding and arrest of many others, the statement said.

In other violence Saturday, a car bomb exploded in the northern city of Aleppo, Syria's largest, damaging a government building but causing no casualties since the building was closed for the weekend, according to SANA.

Activists also reported shelling by government troops and clashes between rebels and government forces in the central provinces of Hama and Homs, the eastern region of Deir el-Zour as well as Idlib and Aleppo to the north. Activists said at least 22 people were killed in violence Saturday.

In Egypt, Arab League deputy chief Ahmed ben Heli told reporters that a Syrian opposition meeting will be held Monday in Cairo.

More than 200 Syrians representing opposition groups from inside and outside the country have been invited along with foreign ministers from the five permanent U.N. Security Council members ? the United States, Britain, China, France and Russia, he said. Also invited were Annan and envoys from Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Turkey and Tunisia.

They will discuss agreeing on a common vision to deal with the next stage, he said.

The regional and international participation will only be in the opening and closing sessions while the opposition groups alone will discuss the issue for two days.

Previous attempts in the past weeks to hold a similar meeting at the league's headquarters in Cairo failed because of differences between opposition groups.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague welcomed next week's meeting.

"In our view the transition must involve representatives of all Syrian communities," he said in Geneva.

Living On The Vedge: 5 Years of Living on the Vedge

It's been 5 years since I first sat down to share my thoughts on veggie food with you all. I started LoTV as a young freelance writer still in college who was interested in writing about vegetarian food. Since then, every few days I'd check in with a restaurant review or my latest food find in Philly (I was a hungry little thing). I had many the adventure and tried on more writing styles than Sybil, but I always found myself here, ready to put something down. It was so that I could look back on it later, but it was also to inform other people that a vegetarian could have panache, and not just be political. Through it all, I ended up becoming a vegan, learned how to cook and began posting recipes, met someone who could keep me on my faux leather clad toes, and found myself impassioned by nutrition and wellness. I've connected with some truly amazing food-lovers and entrepreneurs along the way, whom I now count as good friends and would gladly give my last bite of raw chocolate to.

I want to thank anyone who pops by here. This might never be an incredibly organized blog with a consistent schedule of beautiful recipes and exciting content. I try not to make it just a vegan blog, or an outlet focused on ethics, although that is something I feel strongly about, that's just not entirely what I'm doing here. This is my take on a vegan lifestyle, a collection of thoughtfully sourced products, a balance of nourishing recipes and vegan indulgences, and my experiences.

Some observations?

• It's hard to believe how much vegan frozen food I ate while in college, a habit that was shrugged off after eating at enough of Philly's finer restaurants and developing my palate, and I have to thank ?my food-obsessed friends for showing me the way.?
• I also have no clue what anything I wrote pre-2009 even meant. I was incredibly sober and innocent, except when I was not.?
• In 2010, I fell hard for raw food. It was inspiring and totally different and never boring, and it changed my health, my body, and the way that I think about food.?
• 2011 was my favorite blog year. I spent more time in the kitchen than ever before, took too many photos, and had so much energy. The recipe ideas flowed.?
• I make a really good cocktail now.

This year, things will be a little different. I'm living in a more rural town for the first time, which happens to be a very green and vegan-welcome place, but it's certainly not Philly, where I was constantly out and about at blogger events, restaurant openings, and cooking for lots of friends and parties. My pace here is...slow, and relaxed, and enjoyable, and I prepare a lot of quinoa-bean bowls because our grad student budget is okay with that. I'll be posting recipes and travels when I feel that they're special, and I hope you'll stick with me as we prepare to step into the hospitality industry when this year is through.?

Patriots? October game against the St. Louis Rams in London Robert Kraft said it would be good for the NFL to have a team located overseas.

?I personally think we should have a franchise in London and that is something I am going to push for,? Kraft said, according to SkySports.com. ?I think I said that the last time we were over here in 2009 and before this next decade is out, I hope we have a team here. I think that would be right for the NFL and this fan base has proven they deserve it.?

Kraft however was adamant that the NFL based team in England, would not be the one from New England. He did however say they?d be interested in participating in a game annually in London until they have their own NFL Franchise.

?We lobbied hard to come back after having such a good experience in 2009. We would love to be the permanent visiting team. It was good for team bonding and everyone really enjoyed our last trip to London,? he said, before noting the support the Patriots receive from their growing UK fan base.

Robert Kraft at one point was rumored to be a potential investor in the English soccer team Liverpool, before it was eventually sold to Americans George Gillett and Tom Hicks. Kraft told BBC??Liverpool is a great brand and it?s something our family respects a lot. We?re always interested in opportunities and growing, so you never know what can happen.??The team was then sold to New England Sports Venture, the group that owns the Boston Red Sox and Fenway Ballpark.

The Patriots and the Rams will square off at Wembley Stadium on October 28th.

Pond scum gets top billing as future fuel source

Algae, known to most of us as pond scum, is the most promising sustainable source of energy to meet the growing demand for juice to power everything from cars to factories, according to a major technical organization.?

?There is not an infinite amount of oil in the Earth and we are using it quite rapidly,? William Kassebaum, a senior member with the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the world?s largest technical professional organization, told me today.

While there?s plenty of debate over when the oil will run dry, ?eventually we will need to find other sources to replace these hydrocarbon fuels,? Kassebaum, who is also CEO of Algaeon Inc., an Indiana-based algae producer.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the IEEE endorsed algae as ?the best candidate to provide a sustainable energy source to meet increasing global demands.?

The potential of algae-based biofuel has long been known, but not seriously considered largely because making a barrel of the stuff was?too expensive compared to traditional fossil fuels.?

?Everyone understands that you have to be able to ship a product at a competitive price with fossil fuels,? Kassebaum said.?

When the seminal research on algae-based biofuels was conducted in the 1970s, the price of a barrel of oil was around $20. Today, oil is around $80 with recent spikes over $100 a barrel, a price range where algae fuel producers believe than can compete.

Doing so, Kassebaum noted, will take major capital investment and perhaps government support to enable the industry to produce commercially viable quantities, but in the coming years he believes algae ?will become part of the oil industry.?

The industry will still need?to confront concerns such as water supplies ?? perhaps by producing algae in parts of the country where water supplies are abundant, such as the Midwest, where Algaeon is located.

The Midwest, Kassebaum noted, is already?rich with corn, much of it grown for ethanol.?

In the IEEE statement, he noted that ?An acre of corn can be used to generate 300 gallons of ethanol per year, while an acre of algae can produce 6,000 to 10,000 gallons of light sweet crude oil annually.?

Put that way, perhaps algae really is worthy of the endorsement.

Beach pollution at third-highest level in 22 years

Beaches across the nation continue to be fouled by sewage and storm water pollution that puts swimmers at risk of getting sick, according to a report by an environmental group.

The Natural Resources Defense Council found that although the number of days American beaches were closed or posted with advisories because of contaminated water dropped 3% last year, they were at their third-highest level in 22 years.

California registered a slight increase in beach closures and advisories in 2011, most of them in response to tests revealing elevated bacteria counts, according to the group's annual "Testing the Waters" report.

"We have an ongoing legacy of pollution at our beaches, and the problem is not going away," said Noah Garrison, an attorney with the environmental group's national water program. "We need to be doing more to solve the problem."

The top source of contamination is runoff swept into the ocean by rainfall or irrigation, accounting for about 47% of the beach pollution last year. Beaches along the Gulf of Mexico continued to be hit with closures and advisories related to the 2010 BP oil spill.

The report analyzed bacterial test results and public advisories from more than 3,000 beaches in 30 coastal and Great Lakes states. A high bacteria count indicates beach water is likely to harbor pathogens that can sicken swimmers ? causing skin rashes, stomach and respiratory illnesses, and other infections. Interactive maps in the report allow readers to search by ZIP Code to find out how their favorite beach measures up.

The states with the cleanest beaches in 2011 were Delaware, New Hampshire, North Carolina, New Jersey and Florida. The most contaminated were Louisiana, Ohio and Illinois.

California, which accounted for 25% of the nation's beach closures and advisories, ranked 21st out of the 30 states in the number of beach water tests that flunked federal health standards.

Two Southern California beaches made the report's list of 15 "repeat offenders" because of their persistent pollution problems: Avalon Beach on Catalina Island and Doheny State Beach in Dana Point. Three earned a spot on the nation's one dozen "5 star" beaches with outstanding water quality: Newport Beach, Bolsa Chica State Beach and Huntington State Beach.

The report calls on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to strengthen a new set of beach water quality standards it is set to finalize this fall. Environmental groups have criticized some of its provisions as weaker at protecting swimmers from contaminated water than the 1986 rules they replace.

To curb beach pollution in the long term, the report says, coastal states must address the root cause and build more "green infrastructure" to absorb polluted runoff. Projects could include rain-capturing barrels, porous pavement that allows water to filter into the ground, and facilities that divert and treat runoff before it reaches the ocean.

Google announced moments ago that they will finally be releasing a tablet-optimized version of its social network, Google+. For a long time, we've either had to use the browser or a phone app, which hasn't been the greatest experience. They announced a new app with a tablet-optimized UI. It looks pretty gorgeous and the Hangouts feature in particular has us excited.

In some cases, tree stumps and overgrown brush can add interesting hazards to a hole. On the other hand, they can also create areas of risk and injury to golfers who hit balls into the rough. Professional groundskeepers can walk the course to determine if any damage and overgrowth will prevent a clear pathway to the next hole or hamper efforts to play through.

Chainsaws Severe storms can create heavy golf course damage. For snowy winters, tree branches can become laden with ice and snow and crack or break open. Dangling branches can be quickly and easily cut using professional grade chainsaws. Rather than taking down the whole tree, groundskeepers can remove any dangling or hazardous branches. These can be cut into smaller chunks and put into a compost pile or added to a chipper for mulch. For trees that have been severely damaged by tornadoes, ice, wind and fire, cutting them down with chainsaws is the best option. Workers with experience should do the job with heavy-duty chainsaws to control the fall and level the stump as low as possible without damaging the surrounding grass and vegetation. Where stumps are a safety hazard, a stump grinder can be used to bring it to ground level or below.

Powerbrooms and Blowers Keeping walkways and golf cart pathways clean is done more easily with outdoor power equipment than by hand. A professional powerbroom or leaf blower removes dust, debris, grass clippings, fallen leaves from walkways where golfers will be travelling from hole to hole or to and from the clubhouse or parking lots. This type of maintenance is especially important for the front areas of the property where there is the most foot traffic.

Bruschcutters Use a professional bruschcutter to maintain large areas of taller grass. This allows for an even cut near water hazards, sloped terrain and overgrown brush. Using a hand-held commercial bruschcutter with anti-vibration features makes cutting back tall grasses around fallen or stumped trees easier to do.

When a golf course is gearing up for spring or recovering from hard rains and summer storms, it is best to use professional outdoor power equipment to remedy the problems as soon as possible. Not only will the premises look nicer, it will be a safer environment for members, guests and employees.

Polaroid unveils Z2300 Instant Digital Camera - Computers|Gadgets ...

Polaroid instant cameras that spit the image out of front. i do know after I was growing up we always thought watching those pictures develop was the good thing ever. Polaroid has a brand new instant camera called the Z2300 Instant Camera that may be a modern version of that 80s instant camera.

The Z2300 has an integrated ZINK Technology printer contained in the camera so that it will take digital photos, after which print a 2 x 3-inch hard copy immediately. The camera too can upload images to social media sites akin to Facebook. The camera is available in two colors, including black and white.

The camera resolution is 10-megapixels and has a 3-inch LCD at the back so that you can preview the picture before you print. The printer integrated into the camera uses no ink. The paper the ZINK printer uses is a composite material that has cyan, yellow, and magenta dye crystals embedded in paper. The printer uses heat to activate and colorize the crystals to deliver a transparent and colourful print in lower than a minute. The Z2300 camera is priced at $159.99. The two x 3? ZINK paper sells for $24.99 for fifty sheets, and a 30-sheet pack is out there for $14.99.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association has announced the Class 1A and 2A District and Substate pairings. In Class 1A Holy Trinity Catholic will play at Danville on July 7th at 7 p.m. The winner plays Lone Tree at Danville on July 10th. Other July 10th games has West Burlington playing Notre Dame at Danville at 5p.m. New London plays Lisbon at Highland at 5 p.m. and IMS plays at Highland against the Huskies at 7 p.m. District semi finals will be July 12th and the Finals will be July 14th at Washington, substate will be played at a site to be determined July 17th.
Class 2A District play begins July 7th with L&M playing WMU/WACO at Wapello at 5 p.m. Central Lee plays Columbus Community in the 7 p.m. there that night. The 5 p.m. winner advances on to play Mediapolis on July 10th at 5 p.m. The 7 p.m. winner advances onto play the host school Wapello at 7 p.m. July 10th. Those winners go onto the District Championship game at Wapello 7 p.m. on July 14th. The Substate is July 17th at Mt. Pleasant, game time is 7 p.m.
3A and 4A tournament pairings will be announced next week.

Following a rainout of events on June 16, Mother Nature decided to let loose again on 34 Raceway during heat race action last Saturday, June 23 allowing 9 of the 14 heat races to be completed.
So this week (June 30) at 34 Raceway we will try again for the Mike?s Auto Parts and Roberts Tire Center Night $5 Fan Appreciation Night at the races.

It will be held at the East Lake Soccer complex, team building in a variety of sports will be taught, cost is $20 for residents and $25 for non residents.
Youth soccer camp will be held July 23rd thru 27th for grades 1st thru 8th. Camp runs from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and costs $20 for residents and $25 for non residents.
Little Artist camp will be July 19th thru August 9th on Thursdays from 9-9:45 a.m. for ages 3-5 and 10-10:45 a.m. for ages 6-10. Camp will be held at the Civic Center Meeting room. UEFA fines Germany for fans' neo-Nazi flag

WARSAW, Poland (AP) - UEFA has fined the German soccer association $31,200 after fans displayed a neo-Nazi flag at a European Championship match.

Germany has now been disciplined for fans' behavior at all three Euro 2012 group-stage matches, and paid fines totaling $50,000.

UEFA says fans were guilty of "improper conduct" at the match against Denmark on June 17.

Monitors from the Europe-wide FARE fans' group identified the neo-Nazi symbol after being appointed to help find offensive flags, chants and behavior in Euro 2012 stadiums.

UEFA previously said Germany fans in the Arena Lviv in Ukraine also sang "inappropriate" chants and set off fireworks.

German fans also threw paper missiles at Portugal and Netherlands players at earlier matches.

Lochte, Phelps advance to final of loaded 400 IM

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) ? Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps will have their first showdown on the opening night of the U.S. Olympic swimming trials.

The world's top swimmers advanced to Monday's final of the 400-meter individual medley, a loaded race that also includes the silver medalist from last year's world championships, Tyler Clary. Only the top two earn a spot on the team for London.

Lochte, the defending world champion, was the top qualifier in morning preliminaries with a time of 4 minutes, 10.66 seconds. Phelps was next fastest, cruising through his preliminary heat in 4:14.72. Clary was fourth-fastest at 4:15.88.

Phelps is the world-record holder and won the 400 IM at the last two Olympics, but he vowed to drop the grueling event after Beijing. He brought it back over the past year and said he's known "for a while" that he would be in the race at Omaha. The only stumble came beforehand, when Phelps realized he had the wrong cap. He found a plain white model that worked just fine.

"It felt fairly relaxed," said Phelps, a 14-time Olympic gold medalist who plans to retire after these games. "I'm happy."

Lochte was pleased with his effort, though he knows he'll need to go even faster to beat Phelps. He expects his rival to put in a much better time in the evening.

"That was the easiest 4:14 he's ever done, that I've seen in the whole entire world," Lochte said. "It looked really, really smooth for him. Tonight's definitely going to be a dogfight. It's not just going to be me and Michael. It's going to be Tyler Clary, too. It's definitely going to be a fight."

Brendan Hansen, who quit the sport after two straight disappointing Olympics but decided to come back for the London Games, advanced in the 100 breaststroke with the second-fastest time.

"Just get that first one under your belt ? that's what I wanted to do," said Hansen, whose time of 1:00.30 was a hundredth of a second behind lead qualifier John Criste. "It was a little rough. But I've been feeling great in the water, and I'm just going to get faster with every swim."

Also advancing to the evening semifinals was Eric Shanteau, who competed in Beijing after being diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Phelps' coach, Bob Bowman, was coy about his plans before the trials but said he's known since a March meet in Indianapolis that Phelps was going to compete in the 400 IM.

"He did one and it's really the best one he's ever done in a season," Bowman said. "He was like, 'Man, it would be a shame not to do this.' We'll know a lot more tonight whether that was a good decision."

Clary expected Phelps to scratch from the event, which would have made it much easier to qualify for a spot on the Olympic team. Now, Clary has to beat either Lochte or Phelps to compete in the 400 IM in London.

"It will definitely be a more interesting race now," Clary said, managing a slight grin. "All I can do is control myself. It doesn't matter to me who's in the heat. I'm going to go out and swim the race that I've got in my mind. I think that'll be good enough."

Lochte is eager to face Phelps as many times as possible in Omaha before they resume their rivalry in London.

"Of course, I want to win," Lochte said. "I hate not winning. I love to win. But if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. I'm not going to beat myself up over it."

Dana Vollmer, coming back from the disappointment of missing the Olympics four years ago, was the top qualifier in the 100 butterfly. She posted the fastest time ever in the United States (56.59), breaking a 12-year-old mark, and has her sights on Sarah Sjoestroem's world record (56.06), which was set in 2009 during the era of high-tech, rubberized suits.

"It's always in the back of my mind," said Vollmer, the defending world champion in the 100 fly. "I definitely want to do a 55."

Vollmer, who made the 2004 Olympics as a 16-year-old, battled injuries and medical problems for much of the past decade, but she's healthy now and thriving with a new diet.

"I feel better than I did at worlds," she said. "That race felt good, but I still feel like I didn't put all I have into it knowing it's just the prelims. To be at that time, it's definitely a good sign for my next swims."

Elizabeth Beisel led qualifying in the women's 400 IM at 4:35.72, nearly 4 seconds ahead of Caitlin Leverenz. Connor Jaeger was fastest in preliminaries of the men's 400 freestyle (3:48.06), with two-time Olympian Peter Vanderkaay also claiming a spot in the evening final.

The affirmations a person uses depend on many factors. What is the person trying to accomplish? Where is he or she now in relation to that goal or dream? What is their belief factor? Is he or she aspiring to something big or just looking for incremental improvement?

One of the biggest knocks critics have against affirmations is that they encourage unrealistic thinking.

It is ridiculous, they say, to encourage a sixth grader who can barely play ?Hot Crossed Buns? on the saxophone to use an affirmation like, ?I am a world-class saxophone player?. That?s just delusional, they argue, to have a child believing something so out of touch with reality.

?What,? you say, ?I thought you were in the business of promoting affirmations and encouraging others to follow their dreams?? I am. And, I still agree with those critics. Oh, I believe emphatically that affirmations are for everyone, but I do not believe every affirmation is for every person.

Yes. The critics are correct. This affirmation is completely unrealistic for any sixth grader who believes it is unrealistic.

They are also correct that a smart sixth grader is probably going to doubt the affirmation at some point. Sooner or later the sixth grader using this affirmation may have the thought, ?I can?t even play ?Hot Crossed Buns?. I?m not a world class saxophone player.?

These two pieces of information do not match up. The sixth grader, like most human beings, will search for a way to make the ideas congruent. When this happens it is decision time for the sixth grader and his or her dream of being a world-class saxophonist. Whether they know it or not the critics are citing and the sixth grader is experiencing a well-known psychological phenomenon called cognitive dissonance.

This theory states that when we hold two incongruent pieces of knowledge in our minds there is a very strong psychological impulse to bring the two conflicting thoughts into agreement. The idea being that our sixth grader cannot hold the thought, ?I can?t even play ?Hot Crossed Buns?,? in his or her mind while at the same time holding the idea, ?I am a world class saxophone player.?

The classic example is the mother on the news who cannot reconcile the baby she brought into the world with the possibility that he may have committed a crime. So, she believes in his innocence even against overwhelming evidence.

Now, here is where the critics? logic fails. They assume, I suppose, that the only option for this newly self-aware sixth grader is to stop using this unrealistic affirmation and stop pursuing such lofty and unrealistic dreams. Basically, ?Give it up, kid, there?s no chance.?

The cognitive dissonance theorists tell us that there are actually three options (besides ?getting real?) open to resolve this dilemma.

Change beliefs ? the sixth grader can change one or both beliefs to be more in line. ?I know I?m not a world-class saxophonist right now, but I can be someday.? He or she admits the first fact and changes the condition for the second to bring them into congruence.
